Hyakujuu No Ou Ni Tsugu! by Takara Akegami

Again, I barely pulled myself away from watching Doctor Who to write this review. My addiction, its bad, and its expensive and I just can't stop. In manga related news... nah, I've got Doctor brain, sorry.

Hyakujuu No Ou Ni Tsugu! by Takara Akegami

Art and story (c) Takara Akegami

Genre: Shojo
Length: One Volume – 4 Chapters plus a one-shot

Its typical for manga to have huge eyes, but with this manga sometimes the face shape and the eyes together made for a pair that looked a little alien. In conjunction with that, the art was fairly generic, though drawn well. The clothes, too, they were cute but mostly casual clothes or school uniforms with out much originality put into them. The backgrounds were adequate, though a little
heavier on the blank side and anything else. There were also a few too many blush lines for my taste, which, in the best of manga, is not an attribute I particularly like. Really, there's not much to complain or praise as far as the art goes.
Yuka, after confronting a suspicious man outside of school finds he actually a reporter looking for cute and stylish high school girls for a magazine article, and even takes her picture as a reference. This is how Yuka's life goes, as the most popular girl in her all-female school, she's always the center of attention. When she gets home, the reporter is there, though, and that’s when things start to get complicated.
Another manga about an older man and a high school girl, its a common theme, but I can't bring my self to say I liked this one. I found the male lead too mean, and the female lead annoying. It had one redeeming factor which I'll get to at the end. Until then, I'll start off at the beginning: Yuka is just about the worst; she's spoiled and vain and falls for Shinohara (the older man) just about instantly because he's handsome. I really can't stand anything she does, because she acts like the center of the universe. To make matters worse, Shinohara is just about the worst, too, both as a match for Yuka's type as well as my preferences go for male leads. He's downright mean to Yuka right from the beginning and isn't nice until the very end by which point I couldn't care less for either one of them or
This  story was much less generic and rage-inducing
if they are happy to be together. For example, to get her to help him he demands she take a tracker/gps device with her and when she tells him no he just kisses her to get her to shut up and the whole situation is over just like that. Excuse me? Are you telling me a headstrong girl will just let things drop just from something like that? Seems rather sexist. This manga is sort of a 'they argue but they also love one another' situation, but with out any warmth in it, and hardly any silly couple arguing that I like. Somehow the ending is really cute, though, but only because his personality suddenly changes. It didn't feel rewarding at all! The plot was choppy and filled with generic situations, too. Now, I did say there was one redeeming thing, and that is the last chapter, an unrelated one-shot about a girl who visits a video store everyday just to see a clerk. Compared to the main story, this one is cute and original where the inevitable confessions hold their weight. I could read it again and again, and, in fact, would read a whole story about the two of them trying to work out their differences. If this short hadn't come at the end this manga I don't think I'd have had the energy to even write up a review for it. So, I'll give it a special two-part rating to reflect my feelings on the matter.

Main story rating: 1/5 Generic and the couple annoy more than anything else. Just skip it.

Ending One-shot rating: 5/5 Cute and interesting with a twist you may not see coming. Just read this chapter and ignore the main story completely.
