Boku wa Mondai Arimasen by Natsujikei Miyazaki

Sorry for waiting so long and then only posting a short review like this. I've been working so I put off sitting down and reading but then yesterday was Veteran's Day so I thought I'd be able to get around to writing a review. Because I decided that, my mother decided that we should spend the day off in Yosemite since it was free to get in for the holiday. It was beautiful there, of course, and it was damn cold. I hadn't seen snow in years, though, so I enjoyed myself. Then there was a bit of a debacle, people got separated, I lost half an earring, and my sister and I hiked in the dark to the parking lot only to find our parents, who were our ride, got worried about us being late and were driving around the park looking for us with out a way for us to find them now that we were driving around on the shuttle looking for them. So, while it wasn't late when I got home, I didn't really feel up to sitting down at the computer. I also learned an important lesson: Drive myself everywhere.

Boku wa Mondai Arimasen (There’s Nothing Wrong With Me) by Natsujikei Miyazaki

Art and story (c) Natsujikei Miyazaki

Genre:??? (everyone seems to classify it as Seinen)
Length: One Volume - 8 Chapters

The art is definitely strange, even at a glance, even at the barest of glimpses. I don't want you to
think I picked out the weirdest pictures just for this review, because I picked out the average ones. I was digging it, because it is very stylized and yet has a realistic feel to the caricature of it all. Plus its professional in its entirety. It is sometimes hard to tell what gender some one is, the looks of background and secondary characters widely fluctuate into nearly alien-like proportions, and there is no way of knowing what is going on by the art alone. Beyond that, the backgrounds were full of a lot of detail when they were there and when they were empty it didn't really bother because they add to the desolate look. The body types of 'most' of the characters are thin and lanky, though that body type is definitely no the only one in the story, with the clothes well fitted to them, and with interesting details. There is a sketchy look to the art, with watery, almost half-erased looking eyes, and wispy hair. Its very unique to say the least. The pictures speak more for themselves than I have any way of describing it.
This collection of shorts lets you into the lives of several different groups of people, who, despite what other people might think, are completely normal in every way. Just like you and me.
Literally walking on birds.
I don't typically review manga where all the chapters are unrelated, but when my sister told me that she had just read a weird manga and then immediately gave me said manga, I realized I better just give this one a look. My sister was quite right, Boku wa Mondai Arimasen is weird. No other word describes it quite as well, so, sorry if I over use it in this review. Its really hard to explain it, to boot. The art is strange, the personalities are odd, and the plot lines (if you want to call them that) make almost no sense and you are dropped in the middle typically anyway. I've read strange
things, watched strange movies, and am a bit of a strange person, granted, but this manga takes a different approach to things that is off putting and attention getting all at once. I could sympathize with the characters at times, and then they'd do something so abnormal that I'd be back out again. I guess it's simply because, as the title suggests, we're all a little weird to someone. As with this type of collection manga, where there is no central plot and each chapter stands on its own, there are always ones you like and ones you don't as much, but overall the good out weighed the bad in my opinion. Read it or don't read it, but it is definitely an experience. If you like weird, or if you like interesting art, I'd say go for it. If you're an old veteran like me and are looking for something different, go for it. If it looks intriguing in any way, try it. Just don't blame me for how weird it is. Putting a number on this doesn't really mean anything, though I'm going to do it anyway, because its so out there in a category all it's own. I'd suggest reading the first chapter and if it puts you off, just quit, otherwise, buckle in for an wild ride. I enjoyed my self but also I didn't…?

4/5 Interesting.

Is barfing in someone's lap a sign of true love?
