Art and story (c) Hiroki Hiromoto |
Genre: Shonen (a fairly eechi one, too)
Length: 4 Volumes – 23 Chapters
The art is modern and generic, in a male oriented manga way, with choppy asymmetrical hair and other trendy types of hairstyles (including the cover shown 'twin tails' so popular now a days). Faces tend to be all the same pointed chin that is typical of this style of manga with large angular eyes and hardly seen noses. Body figures are slim, though the girl's figures are robust where it counts, meaning the thighs and the chest are quite fleshy to put it politely. As for clothing, there are a lot of different types of school uniforms and little else, though the clothing all has good detail. On the whole, the art, tones, and backgrounds are good, but in a style I have seen many times.
When a country decides to use genetics to match people so that the best children can be born, love takes on a whole new meaning for the young people of the age. Yuuichi wants to marry a girl who is prettier than his sister, but the coupling matches are not judged by looks and he is not sure such a thing will ever come to pass. Jun's friend has a beautiful sister named Mai, and no one but the two of them know that they actually have been set up through genetics. Miyuki is a little intense about games and air headed in everything else, so she is very worried about being set up with someone who won't understand her love of games. Takuya and Shiori's fathers are brothers, but whenever the two families meet all the adults do is argue. When the two youngsters are matched they decide to use their comparability to bring the two families back together.
Let me explain this manga to you: It is about horny teenage boys being legally set up with genetically matched hot girls, and half of the couples are actually related to one another. I'm not really into incestuous couples on the whole, and I was very wary of what I was reading because the first set of teenagers are actually brother and sister who end up together because the computer matched them as perfect for one another, A.K.A their baby is certified a genius. If you barrel past that, you move on to a much easier to swallow pair who like each other from the start but are too awkward to really be a 'couple' until they spend more time with each other, as a plot, they are actually pretty funny together but the girl acts so obtuse that its a little bit of a put off. The third story is the is the best set up, consisting of two gamers put together though their relationship sort of starts sooner than the two of them mean to when a striptease is involved. Did I mention yet that this is about horny teenage boys? The last set is about related persons again, though this time they are cousins instead of siblings, and they start their relationship by trying to bring together their quarreling parents. So, the plots are varied, but as for the stability... Things are a little jumpy, and the comedic nude scenes are prolific and lengthy, making the normal plot sort of sift around them. It feels like this premise could be used better instead of the endless sex jokes it is utilized for. I wanted to like it after the first chapter since the hook was interesting despite the sibling love, and I kind of did warm up to it in a way, but its not really there from a plot-orented view. The last plot drags on just to fill another volume, I suspect, and cuts in a few confusing places. I don't think I would read Sore Wa Totsuzen, Unmei no Aite ga again but I suppose it was interesting enough for the once. Too bad its just stereotypes and erection jokes, genetic matching sounds like a goldmine of possibilities and teenagers thinking about naked women seems like the low end of them.
1.8/5 Typical love tropes plus too much incest give this its low rating.
