Yoru no Gakkou e Oide yo! By Kozue Chiba
Art and story (c) Kozue Chiba |
Genre: Shojo
Length: One Volume - 3 Chapters and 3 unrelated One-shots
Art was polished, practiced. The eyes are huge but they fit in the faces well, the hair was fairly plain and generic trendy but drawn really well. Clothes were mostly school uniforms with clean lines, nothing really to look at. Body movements were fine, the last one shot is obviously the oldest art and it had a little stiffness in the poses. They have really big lips when in profile, but that doesn't hinder the expressions that are well used.
Yoru, despite what every one else says, finds it very unfortunate that she lives in a house on school grounds. They may like to hang out there after school, but she has to deal with all the jokes, and the fact that she has to see school even on her days off. When her classmates ask if she has seen a ghost on school grounds during the nights, it gets her thinking, and just as if it was conjured with her thought, a spirit appears on the grounds... except this ghost looks like her classmate and is going to visit the ducks?

The main story was a sweet love story, but the characters didn't seem too trope-y, their relationship was interesting to read; they are both kind of shy so it's really adorable. Sure, the art isn't anything to write home about but the story itself was a straightforward telling of the two with no extra unnecessary stuff, and no loose ends. Yoru's problems, while a little silly, feel like they could be real if the situation was possible and the love interest is more than just 'misunderstood bleached hair guy' that often prevails in school shojo. The one- shots were even pretty good, except for the last one, it's kind of nonsense and feels really rushed. All in all though, a pretty good manga volume, would have been better with out so many one-shots added since it makes you forget a little about the main story, but worth the read.
3.8/5 Maybe skip the last one-shot and it'd be a 4
And just for the heck of it....

Art is very good,
also polished, the tones added a lot instead of just being stuck
around. The eyes are quite large, but faces are well rendered for
expressions. Body proportions and movements were not awkward in the
slightest. All the cartoon-y animals match so perfectly to the story,
as well.
A little story about
a sparrow who hates humans and ends up being cared for by one, there
by finding out that perhaps he has misunderstood them a little.
Very funny and very
cute! Also, well structured and an interesting read from start to
finish. The heroine is spunky but also cute and seeing someone from a
tiny animal's view adds to the unique story. Sometimes a little cute
one-shot is just perfect for a good read. Absolutely puts the mangaka
in an excellent light. I'm glad I looked it up.5/5 Worth a read or two.
