Chronos

Genre: Shonen (12 and

Chronos Deep is kind of hard to pin
down. The art style is good, there is some awkward body poses and strange
clothing issues but over all its consistent and easy to look at. The art style
somehow reminds me of D. Grey Man in the body and face shape. The character
designs do seem a bit generic, though. The backgrounds are good.
Io Nanasawa, in a fire four years ago,
lost his family and his home and strange things began to happen around him to
the point that there are rumors about him being possessed. Io doesn't help the
situation by being quiet and aloof but he can't help it because he also thinks
he is possessed and hates bringing pain to others. It’s a cycle he can’t break.
The vision of a strange shadow at his feet as his dead family lies on the floor
and a fire burns around him, haunts Io every time he closes his eyes. Now a new
transfer student won't leave Io alone, and though he thinks being by himself is
the best for himself and others, will his new classmate ruin things for him?
Scoring this manga… Grrr, its hard… It’s
a good manga, though it wraps up really fast in the last volume, and in a
confusing manner where everything that was a mystery in the first two volumes
is blurted out, even though you can tell it should have been a much more
complicated. I think it just wasn't fully realized story-wise and then was
cancelled so it was quickly finished. There is also a little too enthusiastic bromance that gives it
a bit of a shonen-ai feel, I don’t find that bothersome but it comes and goes
randomly. I really want to give Chronos Deep a high score because it had
potential for a longer manga, but at the same time the last volume is quite
confusing. The action is staged well and the humor is humorous. I've just got
conflicting feelings about it.
2/5?
3/5?
4/5? I want to recommend it, but the
last volume is such a let down...
