Benkyou Shinasai by Aya Nakahara

Benkyou Shinasai by Aya Nakahara

                        Genre: Shojo (all ages)
                        Length 2 Volumes - 7 chapters 1 extra

This is the same mangaka that did Lovely Complex (or Love*Com) which is one of my favorite manga and anime, so I am a little biased because I love Nakahara Aya's style so much. I’ll rate it objectively though, don’t worry. This author's style is fairly unique, the eyes are smaller than average, and the art is simple. Backgrounds are mostly tones, so there isn't a lot of detail there, but Nakahara Aya's clothes always look interesting and casual. The extra chapter is at the end of volume one, and it's just a short, unrelated, one-shot, though it is fairly long at fifty-five pages.
Misora Minami just got into a prestigious high school that boasts an eighty percent chance of passing the Tokyo University entrance exam, but, as a girl who hates to study, Misora's acceptance can only be called a fluke. Getting lessons from her Grandfather everyday just makes things worse, but when Grandpa gets a new student, Misora finds she wasn't the only fluke and gains a study partner with the same apathy towards studying as herself. It’s just too bad the boy already dislikes her because of her hard head.
This manga is pretty much a gag all the way through, it’s very silly with hardly a plot and love triangles end with the extra parties falling completely in love with some one else. I like Nakahara Aya's work a lot, but if you've never read any manga by this author, read Lovely Complex first because it’s the best one, then go and read the rest. The characters in this particular one don't have much depth beyond lack of wanting to study, in fact the characters in the extra one-shot are more interesting. The title, translated, does mean, please study, so it’s easy to see what you’re getting into.

3/5 Recommended for Nakahara Aya fans who want more of the trademark silliness, otherwise it’s not very impressive.
